Five fire companies were called out to Boulevard Towers Apartments Sunday morning.
Amherst Police say they arrived on scene about 10:30 a.m. to find smoke throughout the Meyer Road building. Fire companies from North Bailey, Brighton, Eggertsville, Getzville and Ellicott Creek extinguished the fire, as residents were evacuated.
One resident was transported to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for smoke inhalation, but police say the resident's condition does not appear to be serious. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but police say it appears to have been a kitchen fire. The Fire Inspector estimates damage at $70,000.
