A Buffalo man is facing up to seven years in prison after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle.

Jaewon Shropshire, 26, faces a felony count of first degree reckless endangerment, plus misdemeanor charges of Obstructing Governmental Administration and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. Other vehicle and traffic law violations were also lodged.

Buffalo Police said the charges stem from an incident beginning Sunday around 7:10 p.m. Police spotted a stolen U-Haul on Bailey Avenue near Kensington Avenue. As officers approached the vehicle, Shropshire allegedly backed up into another vehicle, then drove forward, forcing an officer to jump out of the way.

A vehicular pursuit followed and the U-Haul ran a red light on Bailey, before stopping at a dead end on Orleans Street. He was captured after a short foot chase.

Shropshire has been arraigned and is scheduled for a felony court hearing on July 20. He has been released on his own recognizance.
