It's not every day that a world famous rock star helps set up a marriage proposal. But that's exactly what happened for a local couple at a U2 concert Monday night in Toronto.
U2 singer Bono told the crowd "There's a man in the audience named Dan and he wants to ask a girl Katie to marry him." Dan and Katie are Dan Gigante and Katie Krawczyk. After playing their song "Struck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of," Bono said "Dan, now is your moment."
He asked and she said yes.
"At that point, I was in a complete daze. I don't think I heard the next four songs being played. When they were near us, we were holding up my hand and pointing at it, trying to get his attention to say hey, it was us and we did it and I said yes," said Krawczyk.
Gigante arranged the moment by pulling some strings through a local concert promoter who has a relationship with the band.
"It's a classic 'I knew a guy who knew a guy,' and everyone came through," said Gigante. "It was just a Buffalo guy helping out another Buffalo guy and Bono willing to oblige."
Krawczyk says the magical moment made possible through Gigante's connections is a perfect example of what the city is all about.
"That's Buffalo for you, the city of good neighbors, people trying to help each other out, making dreams come true. It's such a memory I'll hold close to my heart always," she said.
The couple says the crowd around them gave them a warm reaction and they've received kudos from all over the world. They have yet to set a date for their big day.
As far as whether U2 might play the reception, Krawczyk says it's unlikely, but she says that would make it the "wedding of all time."
