Buffalo Maritime Center shows off new home

Oct 6, 2010

Buffalo, NY – The Buffalo Maritime Center held an open house for it's Fall programs.

In its new home on the West Side, the Buffalo Maritime Center offers boat building courses to anyone with a thirst for creation. Richard Butz is the center's program coordinator, and he said that in ten to twenty-week courses, students can build a variety of wooden boats.

The Center is a non-profit organization, depending on grants, contributions, and membership fees. Fall classes start on the twentieth of this month. Butz said the they aim to expand their programs and hire a full-time boatwright. But with all their teaching, come lessons on the good the work does for it's students.

Butz said that boat building becomes a passion, where most students won't stop after making just one boat.
