Jun 7, 2012

Buffalo police are probing a double stabbing  that occurred late Thursday afternoon near the Erie Canal Harbor Metro Rail Station which has sent to two victims to the hospital.

The attack occurred just as crowds were assembling for the first big music concert of the summer on the downtown waterfront in the 100 block on of Main Street around 3:30 p.m.

Police have detained one individual in connection with the stabbing.

The victims were a male and female.  Both were taken to ECMC. It appears the injuries to the female are serious.

The suspect fled on foot after the incident and B District officers, who were on routine patrols, apprehended the individual a short distance away in the Washington Street/Seneca Street area. That individual has now been detained by Buffalo homicide detectives.

Police spokesman Michael DeGeorge said details are still being put together.  DeGeorge said it isn't known if the incident has anything to do with the rock concert.

Metro Rail trains are running as usual and several thousand people are expected to gather in the harbor area for the first summer outdoor concert of the Thursday at the Harbor series with The Cult, an alternative rock band.
