Buffalo, NY – The City of Buffalo is the third poorest city in America with populations of over 250,000, according to U.S. Census data from 2007.
The figures show that 28.7% of the city's population was living at the poverty level or below. That compares with 12.5% nationally.
Buffalo ranks ahead of Detroit and Cleveland. The last report, using 2006 data, had Buffalo in second place, with 29.9% of its people considered poor.
Analysts caution that the numbers are a cause for concern, and are statistically unchanged when the margin of error in compiling the data is considered.
