The City of Buffalo is offering rewards to residents who provide information on illegal use of ATVs and dirt bikes on city streets.
As part of the program, residents can now call or text to report illegal ATV or dirt bike use, and in cases that result in the confiscation of the vehicles, the tipster can receive a reward of up to $100.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown says that complaints of illegal use of dirt bikes and ATVs are on the rise. Such vehicles are not allowed on public streets anywhere in the state of New York and are prohibited in parks and public spaces in Buffalo.
Brown said those vehicles can create safety risks when they travel in prohibited public areas.
"Illegal operation of ATVs and dirt bikes in the City of Buffalo has led to accidents with injury, there have also been other criminal activities associated with this illegal operation," Brown said. "Just recently in the city of Rochester there were injuries that resulted in fatalities and critical injuries of people illegally riding ATVs and dirt bikes in that city."
Illegal ATV or dirt bike activity can be texted or called in to (716) 847-2255.
