The Buffalo City Mission is moving ahead with a major addition.
The Mission has received a $3.26 million grant from M&T Bank and the Federal Home Loan Home Bank for expanding its men's shelter, on Tupper Street, downtown. City Mission Executive Director, Stuart Harper says, the project will double the size of the shelter and change the way the Mission deals with homelessness in Buffalo.
"Being able to provide the services, by bringing all of our partners together in this first floor of this building, will be phenomenal. Plus, being able to provide the men that stay with us a much better living situation from a dorm of 92 beds, to an individual bed, it'll be vastly different," Harper said.
The goal, he says, is to break ground in the spring and have the new building complete by the summer of 2020.
