Gov. Andrew Cuomo has announced sweeping new measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.

As of 8 p.m. Monday, all restaurants and bars will be open for takeout and delivery only and all gyms, movie theaters, and casinos must close.

Cuomo made the joint announcement along with the governors of New Jersey and Connecticut. The governors are also banning all gatherings of more than 50 people and recommending that all non-essential travel stop between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily.

The closures are in effect until further notice. Essential businesses including supermarkets, medical facilities, pharmacies and gas stations are exempt from the new rules.

Cuomo said he cannot force tribe-operated casinos, like the three operated in Western New York by the Seneca Nation, to close, but he is strongly urging them to do so.
