DA probes whether restaurant inspections were falsified

An Erie County health worker may have falsified dozens of restaurant inspection reports, prompting local officials to look into the matter.

Inspector Timothy Bean retired in early January, citing health reasons. He had been an employee in the County Health Department since 2006.

District Attorney John Flynn says with the information being so new, it will take some time for his office to sort out details.

“If and when -- and again, it’s a when because these are allegations and everyone is innocent until proven guilty -- but if, in fact, the individual is charged, then obviously, I will lay out in specifics what this individual did," Flynn said.

County Health Commissioner Gale Burstein has been asked to appear before an County Legislature committee to answer questions about the falsified restaurant inspections.
