Delaware North announced a commitment of $500,000 to the construction of a new Buffalo City Mission Community Center.
Thus far, over $13 million has been committed to the 75,000 square foot, center. Inside the center, The Delaware North Opportunity Center will provide front end assistance in combating homelessness and poverty in Western New York. City Mission C.E.O Stuart Harper calls the facility a game changer.
“The Opportunity Center will serve as an epicenter of learning,” he said. “Where our residents and community members will have access to education and resources that put them on the path to a new beginning.”
The Tupper Street Community Center is set to open in 2020. Along with education services, the building will have space for mental health care, social, medical and legal services.
City Mission Associate Executive Director Aubrey Calhoun called the donation a blessing.
“It will provide our residents and the community with resources and educational tools that many of them have never had before,” she said. “They can also explore different career development opportunities and begin new chapters and renew their lives, just not for themselves, but also for their family.”
The current City Mission on East North Street will remain open as construction proceeds.
