A popular discount movie theater in Cheektowaga has closed its doors.
Movieland 8 on Thruway Plaza Drive made the announcement on its website and Facebook page Monday. In a statement, theater operator JGM Entertainment says it is "deeply saddended" to report the news. The company goes on to thank its patrons for the last 11 years of business.
Movieland 8 screened second-run films at a cost of $4 a ticket. It was known for its "Big Deal" offer of a ticket, popcorn and a drink for $7.
The theater's operator did not give a specific reason for the closure, but its believed the cost of upgrading to digital projectors was a factor.
