The long search has started for a new president for D'Youville College, with current President Sister Denise Roche planning to retire next summer.

The presidential search is more complicated than most, with Sister Denise having been in the president's office for 36 years and because there may not be any Gray Nuns interested in the position. Her successor is probably not going to be a member of a religious order.

Retiring Board Chair Wayne Redekop says that leaves a lot of possibilities for the Search Committee. Redekop says he has talked with incoming chair John Amershadian about the search.

"We've discussed this recently. We will be discussing it again in terms of the makeup of the committee, but it's going to be reflective of members of the Board of Trustees, representatives from faculty, from the administration, from the student body and very possibly from the community at-large," Redekop said.

Redekop says some board members have talked with experts in the search field because it was clear Sister Denise would retire some day and there would have to be a successor. He says the new president will inherit a D'Youville solid in its finances and its enrollment which has been on something of a building spree with the college's new science building and a new sports complex.
