Big changes may be in store for Eastern Hills Mall. A new master plan for the mall and the large piece of property it sits on in the Town of Clarence is being unveiled to the public Tuesday night.
The new master plan for the Eastern Hills Mall would transform the site, off Transit Road between Main Street and Sheridan Drive, into a walkable, open-air, multi-use development.
"It's definitely unlike anything that we have in Western New York," said Jill Pawlik, senior marketing manager for Uniland Development. The Amherst based company co-owns the mall and Pawlik says a majority of the property is a parking lot.
"What we're going to be doing is filling the majority of that space with buildings and open space, green areas, small main streets, sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, benches. So it's going to look nothing like the mall and its vast parking lot that you see today on the 100 acres that's there," Pawlik said.
Pawlik says some anchor stores may remain but the site will take on the look of a small town.
"There's a lot of different size buildings, they may have different materials. They may have different architectural designs. But there's definitely going to be something for everyone. And we want to really draw people in to come spend time in the town center," she said.
Plans to do that include offering a variety of entertainment, food and beverage options and wellness programming. But Pawlik says the first step would be new residential units.
"There is such a demand for housing and multi-unit housing in the area. There's also a demand for senior housing. So we think that might be the first part of the phases," she said.
Pawlik says, the public can learn more about the proposed master plan Tuesday, inside the Eastern Hills Mall, near the Food Court, starting at 6 p.m.
