A former girls' basketball and soccer coach will have to register as a sex offender.
Francesco Maccarrone, 44, of Buffalo was sentenced in State Supreme Court Thursday. He received five years probation and must register as a level one sex offender for sending sexually explicit messages to an underage girl.
Maccarrone could have received up seven years in prison.
In March, Maccarrone pleaded guilty to one count of disseminating indecent materials to a minor, a class D felony. He admitted to sending sexually explicit messages to an underage female victim in December of 2018 when he was a southtowns coach.
