Jon Cinelli, 52, of Grand Island is accused of stealing various prescription medications from a box at Tonawanda Police headquarters while working as a town paramedic.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn said Cinelli alegedly was found with "over 1,000 pills" on him and the "weight" of those pills determined the charges.

Cinelli is charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of petit larceny. If convicted of all charges, he faces up to nine years in prison.

Cinelli was released on his own recognizance and a future court date is pending.

He and another paramedic, Jeremy Pecoraro, were  fired from their positions with the town in March after the two were charged with stealing drugs from the drop-off box.
