Who says there are no downtown spots for people to start their holiday shopping? Buffalo's HarborCenter hosted its first-ever Holiday Season Kickoff at The Shops Friday afternoon.

Visitors got a jump start on their holiday shopping as the building's shops, Red Siren, Modern Nostalgia, Clayton’s Toys & Gifts and Fowler’s Chocolates, were open for business.

“These shops offer a shopping destination, something that wasn’t down here before this building came online,” said Don Heins, HarborCenter's communications manager

Heins says he hopes the kickoff will become an annual event for the city.

“We wanted to do things that would help the entire City of Buffalo and the development of it and the entire Canalside district. And that’s where these shops at HarborCenter come in,” he said.

Santa Claus and Sabretooth were among the familiar faces on hand for the event kickoff.
