Harper triggers race for Canada's leadership

Aug 2, 2015

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has taken measures to establish a leadership election in October.

Harper announced the dissolution of Parliament this morning, setting the stage for his campaign as a member of the Conservative Party. He has held power since 2006. Analysts believe that Harper will face stiff challenges from Liberal leader Justin Trudeau and New Democrat leader Tom Mulcair.
