The most recent COVID numbers highlight a troubling infection trend in this region. On Saturday, the positive rate was 1.6%, more than twice as high as the state's overall rate. Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul believes the eight testing sites set up in this area by the state will work to get things under control.

"That's the beauty of these rapid tests." The results, Hochul points out, are returned within 15 minutes.

"What that allows you to do is to immediately deploy the contact tracers to start asking questions: Where have you been? Who have you been with? Have you traveled outside the area?"

Hochul believes the answers will provide insight into the region's outsized COVID-19 rates.

"Is it community spread, which is of concern? Or is it an identifiable source (of a large gathering)?" she asked.
