Kaleida offers workers voluntary furloughs to reduce revenue losses

Kaleida Health is offering a voluntary temporary furlough program for its staff. The program is part of a joint agreement with the 1199SEIU and CWA1168 unions, which represent about 8,000 employees in the system.

Non-union workers may also participate.

In a statement, Kaleida CEO Jody Lomeo said the move is meant to cut costs and reduce expenses, as the company deals with significant financial losses incurred by the COVID-19 crisis. The furloughs, or temporary unpaid leaves, are targeted towards areas of the organizations impacted by the pandemic, such as elective surgeries and clinic reductions.

The furloughs will begin Sunday and last for 30 days. They will not affect employees directly responding to the COVID-19 outbreak or long-term care services.
