Kenmore West teen admits to running down classmate

A Kenmore West High School teenager has now admitted she ran over her classmate last April with her car.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita said 18-year-old Liana Nieves has pleaded guilty to first degree assault before Supreme Court Justice John Michalski.

Nieves admitting to intentionally striking Madeline Silvia twice with her car after the two had an argument that started over Twitter and text messaging. 

The incident happened April 26 on Chaplin Drive in Town of Tonawanda.  

Silvia suffered serious physical injuries to her internal organs and pelvic bone.

Sedita said the charge is the "highest charge for which she could have been convicted had she gone to trial."

Nieves faces a maximum of 25 years in state prison. She will be sentenced November 7 at 2 p.m. before Justice Michalski.
