A new and violent trend is making its appearance in Western New York.
In what is being called the "Knockout Game," innocent pedestrians are targeted for a sucker punch, with the objective being to knockout the victim with a single blow. There is no regard for age nor gender in selecting a victim, and at least person in New York State has been killed after being struck by an assailant.
State lawmakers are pursuing stronger punishments for arrests made in these cases. A bill being considered now would elevate penalties for those arrested for participating in the "game" to a sentence of up to 25 years behind bars.
Police are making it clear that they are being diligent in attempting to end the violent assaults.
