Snow will continue to accumulate in areas across Western New York over the weekend.
A pair of lake effect snow warnings have been issued. The higher elevations in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties could see up 12 additional inches of snow by 10 PM, and Southern Erie County is facing 4 - 8 inches by 1 AM on Sunday. With the big holiday just over two weeks away, National Weather Service meteorologist David Thomas states it is too early to say whether the snow will stay.
"It's a little bit too early to see if the snow here will be hanging around, but it does look like the pattern is going to be favoring colder temperatures here at least here for the next week or so. Possibly the snow will last on the ground here until Christmastime."
Gusting winds over the weekend could create limited visibility and other hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are urged to be cautious.
Thomas also mentioned that early indications are that this is expected to be a winter of normal snow totals overall.
