Lawmakers to decide on app-based rides

One of the first issues that lawmakers will contend with when they return to Albany next month will be the expansion of app-based transportation services.

New York City has accepted Uber, and the company is hoping to do business in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse as well. Lyft, a rival company, is looking to gain a foothold in the state as well.

Though the services are popular among local officials, taxi companies are fighting against the competition.
