Mixed-use building planned near SolarCity

Economic development is continuing around the Solar City project in South Buffalo. The city Planning Board learned Monday about another spinoff project.

Developer Tim Vaeth told the board he will return in two weeks with a plan for a 20,000 square foot office and restaurant building directly across South Park from the solar panel manufacturing plant.

The structure will be built in front of an 80,000 square foot warehouse building going into the ground next month, also across the street.
"The larger building in the back will take longer than the front building just because of size and scale. The front building we're actually hoping to deliver by the end of this year," Vaeth explained.

"By December, we show the front building done and that's also part of my negotiations with our leases that are happening right now, too, that we're able to turn it over and they can get into the space January 1."

Vaeth says many prospective tenants for office and warehouse space are a little tentative until Solar City starts building solar panels. There is some money involved since John W. Danforth Company is spending $8 million on the warehouse building and the front building is pegged at $2.5 million.

Vaeth says he won't identify the food supplier going on the first floor of the office building but it will need a drive-through lane.
