Following a bench trial, Keona Owens, 23, was found guilty of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter in February in the death of Xavion Hazzard.

Prosecutors say Owens and her boyfriend, Bashar Hall, severely beat the child inside their Weaver Street home. When the boy became unresponsive, he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A medical examiner determined Hazzard died from multiple blunt force trauma to his head and torso.

Hall, who is not the boy's father, was convicted of the same charges in a separate trial. He will be sentenced on Monday.
