The New York State Public High School Athletic Association's COVID-19 Task Force has issued several new procedures regarding fall high school sports.
In its meeting Thursday, the task force decided to move the start of fall sports from Aug. 24 to Sept. 21, and all fall regional and state championship events have been canceled.
Current practice requirements will be continued, although the seven-day practive rule has been waived.
The Association is also urging geographical scheduling for games and contests, and if the state approves, schools would be able to offer off-season conditioning workouts.
If COVID-19 restrictions continue to impact the fall sports season, those sports could be moved into next March, April and May under a possible condensed season plan, which would postpone winter sports from starting until January.
Different areas in the state could have varying requirements depending on what phase of reopening their region is in.
