Peace Bridge toll increase coming in December

Oct 2, 2020

The Peace Bridge Authority said it will be offering substantial discounts for E-ZPass users, in the wake of a toll increase announced Friday.

The New York State Thruway announced that cashless tolling is expected to begin in November, with significant toll savings for drivers who use E-ZPass. Now the Peace Bridge is doing the same.

As of Dec. 1, the cash toll at the Peace Bridge will go up to $6 US and to $8 on March 1, 2021. E-ZPass users will be charged $4 per round-trip crossing starting in December. This is the first bridge toll hike since January 2018.

Peace Bridge Authority General Manager Ron Rienas noted that passenger traffic across the bridge has dropped by 94% because of the coronavirus pandemic and the corresponding border shutdown begun by the Canadian government in March. Truck traffic is also down by 13% and most of the income for bridge operations comes from tolls.
