The City of Buffalo is offering a $2,500 reward for information about the shooting of an 8-year-old boy.
In a briefing outside of Women and Children's Hospital Friday morning, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said Donnell Bibbes is in critical condition. The boy was shot in the head while in a car on the 400 block of South Division Street around 10 p.m. Thursday.
Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda said Bibbes was with two older brothers and his mother.
"We believe that this was not a random act, that it was targeted. We believe one of the two brothers was targeted and we believe this is gang-related," Derenda said.
Mayor Brown read a brief statement from the family.
"Our family would like to thank everyone for their concern and prayers for Donnell. At this time the family has asked for their privacy. Please continue to pray for him as he fights to recover," it read.
Derenda says investigators know that people witnessed the shooting and is asking community members to come forward. So far, no arrests have been made.
