“The State Education Department is in a time of transition and with transition comes opportunity,” said Board of Regents Chancellor Betty Rosa. “We have taken this opportunity to find the best and brightest to continue our goal of providing equity and a high-quality education for all students."

Former Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia this summer announced she was stepping down August 31st to work for a national firm that helps districts with school turnaround plans. Interim Education Commissioner Beth Berlin started in August, but has announced she is stepping down Nov. 15 for a new opportunity that the department has not disclosed.

State officials have said they'll bring in a firm to search for the next education commissioner.
