The 2.11-acre site at 791 Washington St. includes five connected industrial buildings that manufactured windshield wipers between 1920 and 1990. The Krog Group has plans to convert the buildings into a mix of apartments, an extended-stay hotel, commercial space and parking. The expected price tag of the redevelopment is $80 million.

The DEC says the cleanup removed more than 170 tons of paint debris generated from hydro-blasting, 6 drums of various oils and 51 oil-filled electrical equipment units. A long-term plan to manage any residual contamination also has been developed. It includes restrictions on ground water and land use, plus a cover and vapor mitigation system.
