Veteran Niagara Falls cop faces assault charge after road rage

A veteran cop in Niagara Falls is facing charges for assault after an incident of road rage.

James Conte, 48, of the Niagara Falls Police Department was riding his motorcycle while off duty on the afternoon of September 5th. He reportedly tailgated another motorist on the I-190 before following him into a restaurant parking lot in Wheatfield.

Conte is said to have confronted the motorist and struck him with his helmet, knocking the man unconscious. He reportedly then kicking the man before leaving the scene.

Conte has served with the police force for 20 years and pleaded not guilty to an assault charge. The Niagara Falls Police Department has Conte on paid administrative leave.
