Witness in Corasanti trial describes "ungodly" sound of impact

Apr 27, 2012

Day two of testimony in the manslaughter trial of Dr. James Corasanti included testimony from a motorist who says he saw Alexandria Rice skateboarding along Heim Road in Amherst the night of July 8, 2011.

Mark Rowland also described a car speeding toward him and the teenage girl and hearing an "almighty bang."  Rowland described the sound as "ungodly."

The motorist says he turned around and he and his wife tried to help Rice, but had difficulty finding her.  He says he found the teen's body several yards away, checked for a pulse and yelled for his wife to call 9-1-1.  Rowland says there was no sign of the car.

Prosecutors allege Corasanti was drunk and was texting when he hit Rice and then left the scene.  The defense claims Corasanti did not know he hit anyone until he got home and saw the damage to his car.
