New York has now raised the minimum age to buy tobacco and electronic cigarettes to 21 years old, from 18. The law, which went into effect today, "is going to save thousands of lives," said Dr. Andrew Hyland, Chair of the Department of Health Behavior for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.


E-cigarettes banned from school grounds in NYS

Electronic cigarettes will no longer be allowed on public or private school grounds across New York State.  Governor Cuomo signed legislation to ban the use. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley spoke with a health behavior expert at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.


More local residents are kicking the habit. The latest New York State Health Department survey shows Buffalo-Niagara's smoking rate is down by one third compared to five years ago.
