It costs about $2 billion a year to deal with the country’s homeless animals according to the United States Humane Society. A western New York pet pharmacy plans to share 100% of its net profit with some of the nation’s animal shelters to help chop down that cost.

The Niagara County SPCA says it is "bursting at the seams" with animals who need homes.

A puppy is in critical condition after he was set on fire Monday.  A man heard the dog whimpering and found him along the 200 block of Herman Street on Buffalo's East Side. 

Lewis named director of Niagara County SPCA

The woman serving as interim leader of the Niagara County SPCA has become the permanent leader.   Amy Lewis stepped in nearly six months ago when a scathing report of high and unnecessary euthanizations was revealed.

The scandal-plagued Niagara County SPCA continues taking steps toward rehabilitating its image. 

The shelter's board Monday announced Amy Lewis, who's been serving as interim executive director since February, has accepted the permanent post.
