New York State has set aside a record-high $247 million in the latest budget to fund opioid and drug addiction countermeasures. Senators representing Western New York districts gathered in Buffalo Monday to announce $425,000 of that money will go to Save The Michaels of the World.

The news from Albany of an opioid abuse legislation agreement is being hailed in Western New York by many who are on the front lines in the fight against opioid addiction. If there are any disappointments to local advocates, it's that agreement on the measures within the package didn't happen years ago.

With the alarming and rapid rise of heroin overdose deaths in Erie County, a north Buffalo man urges first responders are armed with a drug that reverses an overdose of Heroin or Opiate.  WBFO'S Eileen Buckley says the drug, called Naloxone or Narcan, has been proven to prevent deaths.
