For several days before this storm blew its way into town, Erie County officials were warning people to be careful in the expected bitter cold, strong winds and heavy snow. On Thursday, they announced three deaths.

A Wind Chill Warning remains in until 6 p.m. Thursday. Dangerously cold wind chills will continue that could dip as low as 25-below zero. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley says Erie County's top health leader has a warning for citizens about the extreme cold.

There is a ban on tractor trailers and buses driving on upstate highways due to the extreme weather conditions. WBFO’s Nick Lippa spoke with a drivers at Jim’s Truck Plaza in Cheektowaga to see what they planned to do.

A Blizzard Warning remains in effect for Erie, Wyoming and Genesee counties until 1 a.m. Thursday. A State of Emergency has been declared in Erie County and a driving ban in Buffalo and several local municipalities.

Setting off through the winter woods, I am wrapped like a Christmas package with seven layers of insulation between myself and the day. I'm wearing mittens an astronaut on the surface of the moon would envy. This is one of those ice-box cold, double-digit below-zero days and the snow has that super cold squeak.

Two of the biggest cities standing in the way of Tuesday's nor'easter, New York City and Philadelphia, have lifted their blizzard warnings as the storm's path has shifted to the west and meteorologists have tempered their forecasts for the major urban areas.

A major winter storm is expected to hit the Northeastern Seaboard.

Yesterday's blizzard kept many Western New Yorkers home in the warmth and comfort of their living rooms. But others embraced the wintry weather with a tradition that goes back to the days of former Buffalo Mayor Jimmy Griffin.

Kennedy says state will help with blizzard aftermath

New York State has declared a State of Emergency for all of Western New York and parts of northern Central New York. The action comes after the National Weather Service officially declared a Blizzard Warning in Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Allegany, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Monroe, Livingston, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Oswego and Wayne counties.
