The fight over parking for the proposed major affordable housing in the heart of downtown Buffalo continued Monday before the city Planning Board.

The planned Ciminelli Real Estate development at 201 Ellicott in downtown Buffalo may call for 201 apartments of affordable housing, but most of the talk before the city Zoning Board of Appeals Wednesday revolved around parking.

The Ciminelli Real Estate plan for 201 Ellicott St. in downtown Buffalo is drawing criticism from a future neighbor. Rocco Termini, owner of the nearby Hotel Lafayette, opposes the project: “Don’t put this in the central business district of the city of Buffalo.” During WBFO’s Press Pass, Termini outlines his objections in a lengthy critique that is likely to prompt debate over walkable communities and the path forward for future downtown development.

A Hamburg grocery store will open a major supermarket in downtown Buffalo. Braymiller Market has been chosen to operate a new retail store and wholesale operation at 201 Ellicott Street, near the Central Library.
