Cynthia Van Ness is searching for what she believes to be an illuminating segment of Western New York's past. As Director of Library and Archives at the Buffalo History Museum, her research is examining menus and amateur cookbooks for a look at what our forbears ate and how it has changed with the community.

Saturday was Downtown History Day and the city of Buffalo, the Buffalo History Museum and Buffalo Place announced the completion of its 10-sign outdoor exhibit.

War of 1812 bicentennial wraps up with yearlong events

The Buffalo History Museum kicked-off the last year of the War of 1812 bicentennial Wednesday with the firing of muskets.  This year a series of events will take place across western New York to commemorate the bloody battles of the war between the United States and Canada, and the 200 years of peace that followed.

Two award-winning local journalists will be honored this Friday as the next 'Giants of Buffalo' at the Buffalo History Museum. Buffalo News reporters Dan Herbeck and Lou Michel, co-authors of the New York Times best seller American Terrorist, will lead a discussion on journalism.
