The Buffalo School Board voted Wednesday night to Martin Luther King School 39 and convert it into the Martin Luther King Junior Medical Campus High School.

Buffalo voters made a fundamental change Tuesday in the Buffalo Board of Education by tossing out the current majority and putting in place a new one which will take office July 1. In unofficial returns, voters elected three at-large members, retaining school board President Barbara Seals Nevergold and electing former Buffalo Sabres managing partner Larry Quinn and Patricia Bowers Pierce.

Two candidates backed by powerful Buffalo businessman and Buffalo School Board member Carl Paladino and an incumbent were declared winners Tuesday night in the city school board elections.

The Buffalo Public School District is under pressure to improve failing schools and boost graduation rates in a contentious time for school leadership.  There are more than a dozen candidates vying for three at-large school board seats. "This is the election of the year," said Jim Fink of Business First, referring to the May 6 Buffalo School Board elections. During WBFO's Press Pass, Fink called the elections "a defining moment for Buffalo."
