The Buffalo school board kept busy Wednesday night, fighting through rancor and angry disputes to pass a budget while continuing the battle over how to find a new superintendent.

State Assemblyman Sean Ryan is criticizing the Buffalo School Board's search for a new leader. Ryan held a news conference Monday morning at his Delaware Avenue office in Buffalo calling on the board to hire a consulting firm to conduct a national superintendent search.

Members  of the Buffalo School Board's majority haven't given up on Emerson Principal James Weimer taking the superintendent's position. Meanwhile, the board's minority faction is still pushing for a wider search for a superintendent, possibly even a long-term national hunt.

A big debate is expected at Wednesday evening's Buffalo School Board meeting on selecting the next superintendent. Majority members are expected to name their candidate, Emerson School Principal Jim Weimer, by blocking out minority members.  But as WBFO'S Focus on Education reporter Eileen Buckley reports the Buffalo Parent-Teacher Organization (BPTO) is demanding a comprehensive and transparent selection process.
