Restorative practices changes student behavior

Buffalo's Science Magnet PS 59 is part of a pilot program for Positive Behavior Systems using Restorative Practices. WBFO'S Focus on Education Reporter Eileen Buckley said the school recently invited members of a Brooklyn public school to provide training on how to change behavior and promote cooperation.

Buffalo has added more summer youth jobs to its paid-internship program.  WBFO'S Eileen Buckley says even though it it is still winter, Mayor Byron Brown kicked off the annual Summer Youth Internship Program at Burgard Vocational High School to encourage students to begin applying for the May first deadline.

Buffalo Public School students now have a new tool to help them with their school work.  The Buffalo Public School District has a new partnership with the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library creating the 'BPS virtual desktop' for city students. More than 30 Buffalo Public High School graduates have been attending the Say Yes Summer Academy at ECC. The students have been awarded Say Yes Buffalo scholarships. Young Audiences program helping at-risk teens

City school students who live in poverty and are left on their own after school hours are more likely to participate in risky behavior. But some of Buffalo's at-risk teenagers are being supported through an after school program provided by Young Audiences Western New York.
