There is more reaction coming from the Buffalo Catholic Diocese about clergy sexual abuse, which is denying statements made over the last few days that "eight or nine priests" accused of sexual abuse are still in active ministry. This comes as another accused priest has been put on administrative leave.

With the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo engaged in Holy Week, there was a small group of protestors outside Saint Joseph's Cathedral Tuesday night calling for the ordination of women.

Hundreds of people were in Saint Lawrence Church on Buffalo's East Side Sunday night for a memorial vigil for a much-loved priest who apparently committed suicide Saturday afternoon.

The Diocese of Buffalo and a 37-year-old woman who accused a priest of sexually assaulting her in a Buffalo church rectory have reached a financial settlement.

The woman's attorney tells The Buffalo News that the settlement will prevent a lawsuit in federal court. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

The unidentified woman from Canada accused the longtime pastor of Saint Anthony Church on Court Street of sexually groping her in the church rectory in 2009. The pastor, the Reverend Secondo Casarotto, told police investigators the sexual contact was consensual.

Richard Malone installed as Buffalo's new bishop

A procession of priests, cardinals, archbishops, and bishops led the official installation mass of Richard Malone as the 14th Roman Catholic Bishop of Buffalo Friday afternoon at St. Joseph Cathedral. 

The 66-year-old Malone spent eight years as Bishop in Portland, Maine. Pope Benedict XVI selected him in may to succeed retiring Buffalo Bishop Edward Kmiec.

The Diocese of Buffalo has introduced its next Bishop.

Bishop Richard J. Malone,66, will take over as the 14th Bishop of Buffalo, replacing the retiring Edward Kmiec.

The future of landmark Saint Ann's Church remains a mystery today after it was ordered closed by Bishop Edward Kmiec yesterday for safety reasons.

An engineering report found major problems in the building's limestone structure which has been damaged by years of air pollution.

Due to declining numbers, Saint Ann's is no longer an independent congregation, instead it's part of nearby Saint Columba and Brigid Parish.
