Murder charges filed in deaths of Chautauqua County couple

Two of the four men accused of killing a couple in their rural Chautauqua County home are now charged with first-degree murder, but prosecutors have yet to say how the victims died. 

Authorities say four men have been arrested in connection with a home invasion that left a Southern Tier couple dead.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department is investigating the discovery of two bodies Wednesday in the Town of Carroll, southeast of Jamestown.

Boil water order lifted in Fredonia

A boil water order has been lifted in the Village of Fredonia. 

The Chautauqua County Health Department has issued a boil water order for the Village of Fredonia until further notice. 

There may soon be an outlet mall near the Seneca Nation of Indians' Cattaraugus reservation.

The Senecas today released the results of a retail feasibility study for a mall in the Town of Hanover, with easy access to Thruway exit 58.  It would lead to sales tax benefits for Chautauqua County and New York State.

The report was announced by Seneca Nation President Robert Odawi Porter, Seneca Council President Richard Nephew, and Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards.

As the election nears, officials are moving to upgrade ballots to meet new standards. The problems and solutions vary, including in Chautauqua County where voters will be seeing an increased type size.

Across the state, there have been problems because voters have trouble reading the ballot when the type face is small for the aging eyes of many New Yorkers.

Chautauqua has been using ballots with 8-point type, roughly the type face used on most newspaper pages. The County Board of Elections is increasing that to 11.5 point type.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office is searching for a Virginia man in connection with the homicide of the Clymer Schools superintendent. 

Chautuaqua County Sheriff Deputy Joseph Gerace and District attorney David Foley held news conference Thursday afternoon to announce that 42-year-old Anthony Robert Taglianetti II is wanted for questioning.

"We have evidence to put the suspect in Chautauqua County the night of the homicide which we believe would have been Friday night," said Sheriff Gerace.

Clymer superintendent found dead in apparent homicide

The superintendent of the Clymer School District in Chautauqua County has been found dead outside of his home, the victim of an apparent homicide. 

Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies discovered 51-year-old Keith Reed at his residence on Clymer-Sherman Road with gunshot wounds this morning.  Reed lived alone and hadn't been heard from him since Friday night. 

Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace says Reed was reported missing by friends Sunday night.
