WNY child porn prosecutions rise over 50% in recent years

Prosecution for people producing, distributing or possessing child pornography spiked last year in Western New York.

Between 2015 and 2018, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Western New York handled an average of 38 cases annually. Last year, that number spiked to 58. They only take on the most egregious of these crimes. The others go to local district attorney offices. Prosecutions by the Erie County District Attorney also increased last year.

A former Buffalo teacher was arraigned Tuesday on a three-count federal grand jury indictment, including two counts of producing child pornography and one count of possession of child porn.

A suspended City Honors teacher has been charged with child pornography and attempted and actual sexual exploitation of a child. 59-year-old Peter Hingston of Amherst is being held in federal detention and potentially faces up to 40 years in prison.

A recently retired school psychologist who spent decades with the West Seneca School District has been arrested on child pornography charges. David Michael Calaiacovo of Hamburg had several electronic devices that contained at least 400 images of child pornography.

A New York State Corrections officer has been arrested on child pornography charges.

A federal grand jury has indicted a Cheektowaga substitute teacher and coach on 18 counts, including production and receipt of child pornography.

A Jamestown man has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Buffalo to production and possession of child pornography.

A local man is facing jail time for operating an online bulletin board that facilitated the sharing of child pornography.

Thirty two year old Jeremy Otrosinka is facing a three-count indictment that was handed down by a federal grand jury on Friday. Otrosinka is charged with providing a forum for sharing links to illegal materials. He was also found to possess e-mails that contained illegal images.

He faces a maximum of 60 years in jail.

A Dunkirk man has received what could be considered a life sentence for producing and possessing child pornography.

Roger Luczkowiak was given a 70 year prison sentence by US District Judge William Skretny. Luczkowiak is 32 years old.

Skretny claimed that the nature of the pornography and the age of the victims warranted the lengthy sentence.

A convicted purveyor of child pornography has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.  

Twenty-five-year-old Timothy Michael Bek, formerly a teacher at West Seneca West High School, learned his fate today from U.S. District Judge Richard Arcara.  

Prosecutors say more than 13, 500 pictures of child pornography were found stored on Timothy Bek's personal computer.  U.S. Attorney William Hochul says many of the pornographic pictures captured on Bek's personal computer were of a very disturbing nature.
