Lockport High School was evacuated Wednesday morning after school officials received an online bomb threat. Although a search of the school resulted in no explosive device found, the evacuation created tensions for parents and students.

The City of Lockport was informed Wednesday it is one of ten municipalities throughout the state selected for $10 million grants, as part of a competitive bidding program conducted through the state's Regional Economic Development Councils.


The Environmental Protection Agency is moving forward with plans to clean up several properties along Eighteen Mile Creek in Lockport, properties found to have lead contamination within the soil.

Hazmat crews were called to the Niagara County Courthouse at 175 Hawley Street in Lockport Monday afternoon, after a white powdery substance was discovered on an envelope delivered by the U.S. mail.

The debate is back on over whether the City of Lockport should keep current private ambulance services or return to a city-owned operation. This weekend, residents will have a chance to weigh in.

Firefighters continued to battle a huge blaze at a tire recycling operation in Lockport which was "contained" as of early Thursday afternoon. City officials said they would determine later in the day whether evacuated residents could return home. Stopping short of confirming it, police acknowledged they are aware of reports of a missing person who may have been on the fire scene.

In the City of Lockport, police have  arrested two men responsible for a number of residential burglaries that took place while residents were asleep.

The state is helping the City of Lockport complete another step in its Locks District Redevelopment Plan. The Western New York Regional Economic Development Council has awarded an extra $615,000 for the "Flight of Five" restoration project.
