Amtrak finds new home in Niagara Falls

The City of Niagara Falls is getting a new Amtrak train station.

It's called the first non-casino related development of its scale to happen in Niagara Falls in four decades. Governor Andrew Cuomo was among the dignitaries who broke ground at a future hotel site, celebrating a project that is finally moving forward after four years.

The final phase of a $70 million reconstruction at Niagara Falls State Park is underway, state officials announced Thursday. They also announced the new name for the Robert Moses Parkway, which is undergoing redevelopment to correct what Governor Andrew Cuomo says was "a mistake."

Niagara Falls mayor Paul Dyster announced the first ten projects of the 2016 road paving season on Monday, and revealed three projects that will soon seek bids from contractors.

Elected officials say the people of Niagara Falls, New York have waited long enough for the removal of the Robert Moses Parkway. On Tuesday, Congressman Brian Higgins urged the Federal Highway Administration to expedite the project so that the Cataract City and its people can be re-introduced to the waterfront.

Niagara Falls City Schools Receieve Grant

A federal grant for Niagara Falls city schools will give students access to locally grown foods and allow them to learn about agriculture.

While it may be known as the "Buffalo Billion," New York State's large cash investment in Western New York includes other parts of the region. And elected officials say you're seeing a similar economic turnaround as a result, including one in Niagara Falls.

Tourism officials say, based on the increased number of visitors to the Niagara USA Official Visitor Center, the American side of Niagara Falls is enjoying a record turnout this summer.

New public housing will be built in the City of Niagara Falls. The Walnut Avenue Homes will include 41 new units that will span over several blocks. A groundbreaking ceremony for the project took place Tuesday.

Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster says he has no plans to lay off any firefighters to help deal with budget crisis. 

However, the mayor added that continued financial troubles could mean the city's fire department might not respond to alarms at the Seneca Niagara Casino.  At a 9-11 remembrance event yesterday, Dyster said that he cannot guarantee casino fire coverage if he has to implement a disaster budget for next.
