A public hearing at the State Department of Environmental Conservation office in Buffalo to discuss revocation of Tonawanda Coke’s operating permits ended abruptly Wednesday morning. Within five minutes, lawyers from both sides and a DEC judge agreed to adjourn and pick up again on Friday.

County panel votes to keep Tonawanda crematory closed

Opponents of a plan to reopen a crematory in Tonawanda received a boost from a County Legislature panel Thursday. The Government Affairs Committee recommended revoking Amigone Funeral Home’s status as cemetery land, which is needed to operate a crematory out of its Sheridan Drive site.

Tonawanda Coke faces sentencing for environmental crime

Tonawanda Coke and its owner will be sentenced in federal court. In the preliminary sentencing report U.S. District Judge William Skretny said victims will not be allowed to seek restitution during Wednesday’s sentencing.

After scoring a major court victory against Tonawanda Coke late last week, The Clean Air Coalition of Western New York has now launched a call for fair elections. 

The Clean Air Coalition of Western New York has been selected by the United Nations to lead a seminar in Geneva on how to use an environmental data base.
