Collins resigns

Former congressman Chris Collins and two men charged with him in a federal insider trading case have agreed to settlements with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

It seems increasingly likely that a special election for the western New York congressional seat vacated by the disgraced Chris Collins will be held the same day as New York’s presidential primary in April -- and that has Republicans in the state crying foul.

A Western New York Medal of Honor winner, who had been viewed by political observers as having an excellent chance of getting the Republican nomination to run next year for the seat given up  by former Rep. Chris Collins, says he will not be seeking that congressional spot.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul is staying in her current job, even though some have called for her to run for the western New York congressional seat that’s vacant after Chris Collins resigned.

Collins pleaded guilty to federal charges related to insider trading.
