Three films with Buffalo connections are going to be shown this month to audiences at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival. They feature Buffalo as a stand-in for Los Angeles, Toronto as a stand-in for Buffalo, and a documentary on cheerleading in the NFL. It seems like every season is the busy season for the film industry in Western New York. A major film just wrapped and another is in the middle of its shooting schedule. One interesting side effect of all this work is the growth of film production facilities in Buffalo. The motion picture industry in Buffalo and Western New York has been growing steadily for a number of years now and more than a few producers, aware of the support for the film industry and the cinematic resources the area offers, are becoming return customers.
